The hottest week of the year so far is coming for much of Ohio as the heat and humidity advance into the state for the new week.


What You Need To Know

  • Strong storms are likely across northern and central Ohio late Monday
  • Most likely time frame for storms is 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Damaging wind, hail and even isolated tornadoes will be possible
  • Extreme heat will build midweek with records possible

With the increasing heat and humidity, atmosphere instability will be on the rise, especially Monday evening. Storms are forecast to develop as an area of low pressure moves along a stalled front in the region late Monday across Wisconsin into Michigan.

These storms will likely show explosive development as they fuel off the heat and humidity building in the area. The storms will track east-southeast into northern and central Ohio late Monday evening into Monday night. As the storms move through, damaging wind will be the primary threat across a wide swath of Ohio. 

Additionally, hail and isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

Storms are forecast to move into northwestern Ohio near sunset Monday and spread rapidly eastward through midnight. Storms should exit east-central or southeastern Ohio shortly after midnight early Tuesday morning.

While clouds will likely delay the warmup early Tuesday, once the clouds break, the heat and humidity will surge across all of the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes.

High temperatures will jump into the middle if not upper 90s for highs Tuesday afternoon, and may climb even more on Wednesday.

With the humidity, the heat index, or what it ‘feels like’ outside, will likely top 100 degrees.

A cold front will push across the state Thursday bringing relief from the heat to end the week.

It is unclear as of the publishing of this storm if storms Thursday may be severe, but certainly the potential will be there.
