CLEVELAND — University Hospitals will stop all labor and delivery services at the Lake West Medical Center starting April 15.

What You Need To Know

  • Patients who deliver on or before April 14, 2023 can still plan their delivery at UH Lake West
  • Starting April 15, all deliveries will take place at UH TriPoint
  • Lake West OB/GYN providers will continue to offer comprehensive women’s services, including OB/GYN physician care, GYN surgical care and breastfeeding and lactation services

Starting on that date, all expecting mothers will need to go to UH TriPoint.

The transition is part of a revitalization plan announced in February to enhance the two locations and better support Lake County residents, according to the hospital system. UH has invested $25.5 million for upgrades, changes and enhancements.

“These important modernizations and upgrades are a result of the UH acquisition, and build upon UH’s agreement to bring investments that will benefit the community, including enhancements to facilities, equipment and services,” said Dr. Robyn Strosaker, president and CEO of UH Lake Health Medical Centers in a press release. “We also look forward to providing leading-edge technology, innovative practices, strong clinical research and other initiatives that will help us continue to complement and grow our hospitals.”

Of those funds, $1.8 million has been used to completely renovate the birthing center at UH TriPoint Medical Center, as well as include a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. As part of the renovation, there are 14 labor and delivery suits, two C-section suites and four Level 2 NICU suits to provide care for premature babies who may be recovering from serious health issues.

The hospital said patients do not need to change their current providers. Here’s what you need to know:

  • OB/GYN providers will continue to offer comprehensive women’s services at UH Lake West including OB/GYN physician care, GYN surgical care and breastfeeding and lactation services.
  • Only deliveries will consolidate to UH TriPoint.
  • Patients who deliver on or before April 14, 2023 can plan their delivery at UH Lake West.
  • Starting April 15, 2023, all deliveries will take place at UH TriPoint.

As for the rest of the $23.7 million, the following investments have or will be made at UH Lake West Medical Center:

  • A new hybrid cardiac and vascular lab for UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute.
  • New endoscopy/bronchoscopy suite for UH Digestive Health Institute.
  • Renovation of the surgery waiting room and expansion of surgery areas such as pre-op and recovery, with two new elevators for surgical patient transfer.
  • Relocation of hospital administration for easier access by visitors.
