CLEVELAND — United Airlines said on Thursday that 120 flights have been canceled for Friday as the airline battles a staffing shortage exacerbated by a rising number of COVID-19 cases.

According to Flight Aware, five flights originating from Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport were among those impacted.

The following five flights originating from Cleveland-Hopkins were among those canceled, according to Flight Aware:

  • United No. 450 to Southwest Florida
  • United No. 1624 to Chicago O’Hare
  • United No. 375 to Denver
  • United No. 1977 to Los Angeles
  • United No. 265 to Chicago O’Hare

Five other flights destined for Cleveland-Hopkins were also canceled for Friday, according to Flight Aware:

  • United No. 2124 from Southwest Florida
  • United No. 442 from Los Angeles
  • United No. 1018 from Newark Liberty
  • United No. 2475 from Chicago O’Hare
  • United No. 1957 from Chicago O’Hare

The airline would not confirm if all 120 flights were canceled due to staffing shortages stemming from the pandemic.

“The nationwide spike in omicron cases this week has had a direct impact on our flight crews and the people who run our operation,” United said in a statement. “As a result, we’ve unfortunately had to cancel some flights and are notifying impacted customers in advance of them coming to the airport. We’re sorry for the disruption and are working hard to rebook as many people as possible and get them on their way for the holidays.”
