CLEVELAND — Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was named the AFC’s Week 3 Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday for his performance in Cleveland’s 26-6 win over Chicago.

What You Need To Know

  • Myles Garrett was named the AFC’s Defensive Player of the Week
  • He had a team-record 4.5 sacks in a single game on Sunday
  • Garrett helped keep the Bears out of the end zone in the Browns’ 26-6 win over Chicago
  • The Browns have been among the top teams in the NFL defensively

Garrett’s defensive performance helped keep the Bears out of the end zone.

With 4.5 sacks, Garrett set the club record for sacks in a single game. He also had seven tackles and four tackles for loss.

The Browns also set club records for fewest net yards allowed (47) and passing yards allowed (1). Collectively, the Browns had nine sacks and had rookie quarterback Justin Fields off balanced in his first NFL start.

“It is awesome seeing everybody getting off and making big plays,” Garrett said. “It is just like when you are in high school, everybody is balling and you feel like you can make a play at any time and you feel like you are the star. Everybody wants to feel like that on the field. We are picking for each other, we are working games with each other and helping each other make plays.”

Coach Kevin Stefanski expects Garrett to continue drawing the attention of opposing teams’ offensive lines.

“Myles was outstanding,” Garrett said. “Really, the entire defense was outstanding, but if you point at an individual, it would certainly be Myles in that effort yesterday. He is our best player. I think he knows that, we know that and the other team knows that. He is going to get a lot of attention. We are going to move him around, and we are going to do different things with him.”

Garrett is used to receiving accolades. He has been named to the Pro Bowl two of the last three years, and was named the AFC’s Defensive Player of the Month last October.

The Browns defense is sixth so far this season in passing yards allowed and fifth in rushing yards allowed.
