According to AAA, approximately 4 million Ohioans are already expected to be on roadways this holiday season, but the impact of Omicron cases on travel plans continues to develop.

“With Omicron, it’s certainly possible people may decide to hold off on these plans and not go,” said Kimberly Schwind, AAA Ohio spokesperson.

For those who plan to travel, AAA has some advice on how to handle the holiday commute.

“Pack your patience and get your car ready,” said Schwind.

Across the U.S., AAA expects to respond to 1.3 million calls for emergency roadside assistance.

“We are seeing more breakdowns. A lot of people maybe haven’t maintained their vehicle … maybe their vehicle has sat for longer periods of time during the pandemic,” said Schwind.

She’s has a few safety tips to share.

“Nobody wants their holiday trip ruined by a breakdown, so it’s really important that you spend some time checking your tires, checking your fluid levels, making sure you have enough windshield washer fluid in that reservoir. Check your headlights, check those windshield wipers — just get that car ready for the road,” Schwind said.
