CLEVELAND — Tamara McLoyd had her bond set at $5 million on Monday by Judge Suzan Sweeney after being charged with aggravated murder in the New Year’s Eve carjacking that led to the shooting death of Cleveland Police Officer Shane Bartek.
McLoyd is also facing an unrelated felony charge for aggravated robbery. Bond for that charge is set at $125,000.
Prosecutors said McLoyd approached Bartek in the parking lot of an apartment building on Rocky River Drive and there was a struggle. Bartek was shot twice and was rushed to Fairview Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Prosecutors said McLoyd took Bartek’s car and that car ended up in the hands of an alleged accomplice, Anthony Butler Junior. Police said there was a chase involving several police departments and Butler crashed Bartek’s car in Euclid. He is being held on a $5 million bond.
Bartek was off duty at the time.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 11.
