COLUMBUS, Ohio — For one young entrepreneur, Memorial Tournament week in Muirfield Village provides an opportunity.
Yasmin Block is almost 10 years old. For the last six years, her friends and family have been setting up a lemonade stand right across from Gate 8.
“I think that this is a really fun job to have because you just get to have fun,” Yasmin said.
The goal is to catch thirsty golf fans walking back from the course. Her mom, Megan, said the stand started with her older daughter.
“There’s a myth/legend on this street that one of the golfers will leave a $100 tip as a surprise to one of the kids and it’s true, they got the $100, I think, 2 or 3 years,” she said
Megan fronts the cost of the drinks, but she said Yasmin pays her back.
“They’re learning the value of money,” Megan said. “You know you have to pay for the stuff and then you pay back the money and then you make your profit.”
It’s her summer spending money. She’s saving for a cell phone. While it’s nice to earn some money, Yasmin said it’s not the only thing that matters.
“The most fun thing is getting to see people’s faces when they get their lemonade and they taste it and you see them in their car driving away with a smile. It’s a really nice feeling.”
The goal for Friday was to stay out there for three hours, but it varies with the weather.
