CLEVELAND, Ohio — Spectrum News 1 brings you our Voices for Change series, where activists, leaders, and community members share what has brought them to action and how addressing racial discrimination will create a better world for everyone.
Donna Dabbs is the executive director for the Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival. For the first time, all entries will be streaming this year from September 10-September 18.
Dabbs says the reason for the films is to inspire and educate people on African American life.
“Really, the whole purpose was to be able to share our stories in a different light. We see so much negative news and negative press, and there is a much richer history and story that we need to share…Films present art in a way that can inspire, educate, and motivate people, giving people different impressions of what African American life is like.”
