OHIO — Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley is among the bipartisan group of governors and mayors that will meet with President Joe Biden Wednesday to discuss the administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework plan.

The $973 billion plan aims to repair roads and bridges, create sustainable transportation and build a national network of electric vehicle (EV) chargers along highways and in rural and disadvantaged communities, according to the White House.

The group is expected to discuss how the framework could benefit their cities and states.

Whaley has been pushing for the infrastructure plan in the last few days. Whaley, who is the newly elected president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, backed the Biden administration at an event Tuesday in Columbus, saying the plan is the solution many cities are looking for.

“This plan represents the most significant long term investment in America’s infrastructure in nearly a century, but it’s really important that we get this right,” Whaley said.

Although she’s in the middle of her race for governor, Whaley said she would continue to lead the Conference of Mayors while pushing for the passage of the instrastructure plan. The organization collectively sent a letter to the White House this week, voicing their support for the plan.

The local leaders meeting with Biden are:

  • Gov. Phil Murphy (D-N.J.)
  • Gov. Phil Scott (R-Vt.)
  • Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-Ill.)
  • Mayor Nan Whaley (D-Dayton, Ohio)
  • Mayor David Holt (R-Oklahoma City, Okla.)
  • Mayor Kate Gallego (D-Phoenix, Ariz.)
  • Mayor Michel Hancock (D-Denver, Colo.)
  • Mayor Sandy Stimpson, (R-Mobile, Ala.)

The announcement comes after the White House announced Tuesday that Biden will be in Cincinnati next week for a CNN town hall.
