NORWOOD, Ohio — With the primary election less than a week away, boards of elections across the state are making final preparations for Tuesday.

What You Need To Know

  • The primary election is May 3
  • Voters may choose their nominees for senate, governor and a number of local races
  • Boards of Elections across the state are testing their equipment to ensure it’s accurate and secure
  • Hamilton County is still looking for poll workers

On April 28, Hamilton County hosted its public test, a procedure required by law, to allow the public to watch bipartisan elections officials test automatic tabulating equipment used across the county. The test verifies the accuracy and security of the elections systems.

Elections officials are also processing absentee ballots that have come in, sorting them so they are ready to be counted on Election Day.

Alex Linser, deputy director of the Hamilton County Board of Elections, said because of delays in the redistricting process, the state will have to prepare for two primary elections this year and prepare to repeat the process in August.

As for the May 3 primary, Linser reminded voters to come to the polls with a valid state ID and recommended they review the races that will and will not be on the ballot in their area.

“There are some other primaries that have been delayed,” he said. “But there’s still a lot of important choices to be made this May and we’ll be ready for you.”

Linser said the board of elections is still looking for poll workers for next week. While the need is not dire enough to close any polling locations, he said the county is hoping for between 100 and 200 more poll workers.

“We will have every location opened and fully staffed,” he said. “Right now we’re just looking for those extra kind of people to help things move along more quickly and smoothly on Election Day.”
