The start of the holiday season, beginning with Thanksgiving, often leads to overindulgence in sweets and drinks.

Experts said it’s important to find a balance in order to avoid kicking off the new year unhappy over the choices made during this festive season.

Renowned kidney transplant surgeon, Dr. Charles Modlin, is director of Health Equity and Medical Director of the Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cuyahoga County.

In an interview with Spectrum News, Modlin encouraged people to be mindful of their stress levels to help protect their overall health during the holidays.

“Higher levels of stress can lead to overeating and anxiety,” he emphasized. “The more stressed we are, it increases our cortisol levels. It makes us more hungry for high caloric food.”
