Among the batch of MetroSafe and 911 recordings are witnesses in the bank, an employee of a nearby business and the shooter’s mother.

The department advised that portions of the audio are graphic in nature and to avoid listening if it may be detrimental to mental or emotional health. Parts of the audio have also been redacted to protect the privacy of those involved.

Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said at a news conference that bank employee Connor Sturgeon, 25, bought an AR-15 assault-style rifle used in the attack at a local dealership on April 4.

Armed with the rifle, Sturgeon killed his co-workers — including a close friend of Kentucky’s governor — while livestreaming the attack.

On Tuesday, police released body camera video that showed the chaotic moments when officers arrived at the bank as the shooter, who they couldn’t see, rained bullets down on them.

You can listen to the full audio recording below:

The first caller is an employee from a separate Old National Bank branch in Louisville. She watched the shooting unfold while on a Microsoft Teams virtual conference call. She described hearing multiple shots and seeing the shooter enter the room.

Caller 2 is also an Old National Bank employee who knows the shooter. She was hiding in the closet in the conference room. In the audio, you can hear multiple gunshots amid her panicked voice. She breathes a sigh of relief when first responders arrive.

A short call, caller 3 was in the building and knew the shooter was an Old National Bank employee.

Caller 4 was in a nearby building. She saw someone shot and was in shock, the caller said. Another man speaks on the call and says he heard 15 shots and there were around 14 people in the room.

Caller 5 is the shooter’s mother. She said her son’s roommate said her son may be a danger to himself or others, as he left a note. “He’s never hurt anyone,” she said. “We don’t even own guns. I don’t know where he would have gotten a gun.”
