BUFFALO, New York — Due to recent weather in the Buffalo, New York area, the Mid-American Conference football game between the University at Buffalo and the University of Akron has been postponed.

The conference originally said the game, which was scheduled for Saturday, might be played on Sunday if weather and travel conditions permit.

But conference Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher said Saturday that option wasn’t feasible.

“We want to be respectful of the efforts of the emergency service personnel in the Buffalo area who are working to assist those in need,” Steinbrecher said in a statement.

A decision about possibly rescheduling the contest will be made next week, according to the MAC.

A snow emergency was put in place for New York Thursday morning, as the state prepared for an incoming snow storm that has dumped up to five feet of snow in some parts of Buffalo this weekend. The storm was projected to bring wind gusts off Lake Erie as high as 35 mph, which will make travel conditions hazardous and lead to potential power outages.

Additionally, the Bills-Browns game has been moved to Detroit because of the Buffalo snow storm.
