CLEVELAND — WalletHub released an analysis on Monday comparing 182 American cities on their levels of stress. According to the analysis, Cleveland is by far the most stressed major city in the United States.

The analysis used data from four areas — work stress, financial stress, family stress, and health and safety stress — to develop its ranking. In total, WalletHub used 41 different factors in determining its ranking. The authors noted that some of the data was only available at the state level.

While Cleveland ranked relatively well with work stress, the city had the highest levels of family and financial stress in the U.S., according to WalletHub. Cleveland also had the third-highest level of health and safety stress in the U.S.

Driving the rankings, Cleveland was listed with the highest poverty and divorce rates in the U.S. According to the U.S. Census, Cleveland had a poverty rate of 32.7%, compared to 12.3% nationally.

Cleveland also ranked No. 2, behind Detroit, for lowest average hours of sleep per night.

Four other Ohio cities were listed in the rankings. Toledo ranked as the No. 20 most stressed U.S. city, Akron was No. 22, Cincinnati was No. 26 and Columbus was No. 83. Akron ranked in the top five for having the most affordable housing.

The least-stressed city in the U.S., according to the Wallethub analysis, was South Burlington, Vermont.

WalletHub’s full rankings and methodology is available on its website.
