CINCINNATI — For the fourth time since the award has been given, a member of the Cincinnati Bengals has been named the NFL Rookie of the Month.

Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase honored with the award for September, joining running back Corey Dillon (1997) and quarterback Andy Dalton (2011) won both won the award on offense, and linebacker Odell Thurman (2005) on defense since the award’s creation in 1996.

Chase was named the NFL Rookie of the Week for Week 1 and came in second for Week 3. The award is deicided by fan vote.

Through the first three weeks of the season, Chase leads all rookies with 220 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. His touchdown total also is tied for second among all players.

During his first three career games, Chase totaled:

  • Sept. 12 vs Vikings – 5 receptions, 101 yards, 1 touchdown
  • Sept. 19 at Bears – 2 receptions, 54 yards, 1 touchdown
  • Sept. 26 at Steelers – 4 receptions, 65 yards, 2 touchdowns

Chase is the ninth rookie to record at least one touchdown catch in each of their first three career games and is the youngest player ever — and the first 21-year-old player — with four receiving touchdowns through their first three career games, surpassing Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss’ three TDs through three games in 1998.
