CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns’ roster is down to 85 after the club waived three players and placed two additional players on injured reserve on Monday.

The Browns announced that guard Cordel Iwuagwu, linebacker Montrel Meander and cornerback Kiondre Thomas were all waived by the squad. Two others, tight end Stephen Carlson and wide receiver Ryan Switzer, were placed on injured reserve.

Carlson injured his knee during Saturday’s exhibition game.

The Browns had until 4 p.m. Tuesday to cut the roster to 85 per NFL rules. The Browns will be required to make another round of cuts by Aug. 24 when the roster maximum becomes 80.

The final roster will consist of 53 players, and must be set by Aug. 31.

The team had two days off from practice following Saturday’s 23-13 preseason victory over Jacksonville. The team will return to practice on Tuesday at its training camp in Berea.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said practices on Tuesday and Wednesday will remain light as the Browns prepare to host the New York Giants for a weekend of joint practices. The Browns will also welcome the Giants for Sunday’s exhibition game at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Following Saturday’s exhibition, Stefanski said he liked what he saw out of his squad, which mostly relied on reserves.

“I really was proud of the guys in how they competed. I really thought the guys gave great effort out there,” he said. “We had great meetings [Sunday] morning pointing out all of those things that we have to clean up. It is a bunch of little things that together they can become a big thing. Making sure that the emphasis is on cleaning up some mistakes and reminding the guys that we are very much in training camp mode so we have a lot of work left to do.”
