OHIO — For those who have been vaccinated from the coronavirus, there is a good chance their favorite pro sports team is offering a discount.

The Cleveland Cavs and Cleveland Indians joined a growing list of teams on Monday offering discounted tickets for fans who have been vaccinated.

The Cavs are offering two tickets in the upper deck for $21 for some of their final home games of 2021.

The Indians are offering fans $5 off upper box and upper reserve seats for upcoming games against the Cubs, Reds and Twins.

Previously, the Cincinnati Reds began offering $10 seats in the upper deck of Great American Ballpark on Monday through Thursday games through the end of May.

While the Cavs have capped capacity for games at 25%, the Reds and Indians have recently increased capacity to 40%. On Saturday, the Reds welcomed a crowd of more than 17,000 for a contest against the Chicago Cubs, marking the largest crowd by any of Ohio’s professional sports teams since the start of the pandemic.

Stadiums are still requiring fans to wear face coverings at all times except when actively eating or drinking.

The teams are part of a coordinated effort to get as many Americans vaccinated by July 4. President Joe Biden said Tuesday that his administration is setting a goal of getting 70% of Americans fully vaccinated by July 4.

As of Monday, 40.6% of adults have been fully vaccinated and 56.3% of adults have had at least one shot, according to the CDC.  The data has shown a stark decrease in recent weeks in the number of people seeking their first dose of the vaccine.

Biden said Tuesday his administration was working with pro sports team to offer incentives in hopes of encouraging more people to get vaccinated.
