What You Need To Know

  • An EF-2 tornado swept through Goshen, Ohio on Wednesday
  • It took roofs off homes, tore down trees and struck down powerlines
  • The Goshen Fire Department confirmed that there were two injuries
  • Cleaning crews were out early to clear the mess

Clean-up crews were out on Thursday morning to clear out the mess. The storm downed power lines, scattered debris and destroyed some homes.

“It came so quickly and left basically quickly so you really didn’t have too much time or thought into it,” said Joann Gregory, a Goshen resident.

Gregory was home during the storm. She said it was frightening to watch, but she tried to remain calm as the storm passed through.

“As it eased, you try to get up and look out the windows and it’s just basic devastation everywhere,” she said.

The storm tore roofs off, knocked trees down, and left power lines hanging from poles. But Gregory said the damage done to her home was pale compared to others.

“I had my roof tore up, I have no trees left in my backyard, and that’s pretty much the whole scenario,” she said. “This is a dead-end street and I think by the time the cleanup is done, there won’t be a tree left on the street.”

Gregory’s home was one of more than a dozen houses affected by the storm. Despite the damage, there were only two confirmed injuries. Gregory said she’s grateful to be alive, and is ready to clear up the mess.

“We just had to hunker down throughout the night and get through the dark and start over today during the daylight,” she said.

The American Red Cross set up a shelter at Goshen High School, offering food, water and shelter for those affected by the storm.
