CLEVELAND — After canceling the 2020 Cleveland Air Show due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the skies above Burke Lakefront Airport will be busy with eye-catching demonstrations.

What You Need To Know

  • The Cleveland Air Show will be held at Burke Lakefront Airport Saturday through Monday
  • Tickets must be purchased in advance
  • Each day will include a 50-minute demonstration by the Thunderbirds
  • Demonstrations will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day

The event will be Sept. 4-6 at Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland. Advanced general admission tickets are $30 for adults ages 12 and older, $20 for youth ages 6-11 and free for children ages 5 and younger. Box seats are $40 for all ages.

Event organizers said tickets must be purchased in advance and walk-up tickets are not available at the gate.

The show will feature U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, who have altered their demonstration for the first time in 38 years, according to the Air Show. The Air Show said that the Thunderbirds have consulted with Disney in putting together their 50-minute choreographed demonstration.

“Six select Thunderbird demonstration pilots will put their distinctive red, white and blue F-16 Falcon jet fighters through a choreographed 50-minute performance at speeds up to 500 miles per hour and as close as three feet from each other,” the event organizers said in a press release.

Stunt pilot Kent Pietsch will be on hand to perform a trio of demonstrations, including a dead-stick routine from 6,000 feet and a rooftop landing on the top of a moving truck.

A children’s activity area will be available where kids can make their own aviation goggles and candy airplanes, experience hands-on learning to discover how planes work, play a few games and take a picture as an astronaut.

The air show said it attracts between 60,000-100,000 attendees per year. Organizers said that the show brings more than $7 million of economic activity to the Cleveland area.
