Cleveland Metroparks Zoo announces dates, new displays for Asian Lantern Festival

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo announced the dates on Tuesday of its popular Asian Lantern Festival, which attracts 150,000 annually.

The festival goes from July 14 until Sept. 5. The zoo will be open nightly from 6:30-10:30 p.m. Thursdays-Sundays for the festival. A drive-through experience will be open on July 14, 21 and 28 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. 

Advanced tickets are $20 per person or $60 for a family of four for non-members. Walk-up tickets are $22 per person or $66 for a group of four for members and non-members. Advanced tickets are $18 per person or $54 for a family of four for members. 

Admission on drive-through nights are $54 per car for members and $60 per car for non-members.

More than 70 large-scale illuminated displays featuring over 1,000 individual lanterns will be on display, the zoo said. Live performances will be held every hour. Performances include foot juggling, contortion, martial arts and more.

New displays include a four-story Taj Mahal, a walk-through Python Tunnel, Chinese Dragon and Wisteria Corridor. Interactive lanterns like the Butterfly Garden and Star Pad allow guests to light up displays themselves, the zoo said.

Several local restaurants, including Li Wah and King Wah, will be serving food during the festival.
