CLEVELAND — “Representation matters,” that’s the motto at the International Women’s Air and Space Museum.

The museum, located inside Cleveland’s Burke Lakefront Airport, highlights the past and current contributions women have made to the fields of aviation and aerospace.

Inside, visitors can get an up-close look at early aircraft and learn about women from Ohio who have left their marks in the U.S. Air Force and NASA.

Visitors also have a chance to view numerous artifacts and memorabilia on display that represent female history makers such as Amelia Earhart and Bessie Coleman.

“Oftentimes, women are discouraged from going into STEM fields,” said Sara Fisher, the museum’s executive director. “So we are here to showcase and tell the stories of the women who had a part in making aviation and aerospace what it is today.”

The museum also features an interactive exhibit that showcases what it is like to live on the International Space Station.

The International Women’s Air and Space Museum is open seven days per week and is free to visit.
