CLEVELAND — Browns kicker Cody Parkey was placed on the injured list on Monday as the club trimmed its training camp roster down by five to 80.

Parkey, who successfully hit 19 of 22 field goals a season ago, has a quad injury, the Browns said.

Parkey kicked a point-after attempt in Sunday’s 17-13 preseason win over the New York Giants. Chase McLaughlin relieved Parkey and hit a 49-yard attempt in the fourth quarter.

On Monday, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski would not give any indication on the severity of Parkey’s injury.

“I am disappointed for Cody, obviously,” Stefanski said. “He is a veteran and came up big for us in some big moments last season so I do not want that to get lost in this either. It is disappointing for him, and I know his teammates feel badly about that.”

Parkey’s injury provides an opening for McLaughlin who is used to filling in. In just three seasons, McLaughlin has kicked for five teams. During this three-year career, McLaughlin has made 22 of 28 field goals. He has a career-long of 52 yards.

Stefanski wouldn’t say if McLaughlin has won the starting job, but gave him credit for his performance on Sunday.

“He is doing a nice job,” Stefanski said on Monday. “I think you guys have seen it out at practice. He did a nice job with that field goal into the Dawg Pound yesterday. He is doing a nice job and expect him to keep battling.”

The Browns also placed linebacker Montrel Meander and tight end Connor Davis on the injured list. Meander has an Achilles injury and Davis has a shoulder injury.

The Browns also waived from the training camp roster wide receiver Alexander Hollins and tackle Alex Taylor.

The moves on Monday reduces the size of the Browns’ training camp roster from 85 to 80. The Browns have another week to set its final roster at 53.
