Columbus to resume enforcement of expired license plate tags after July 4 weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus city officials said they will resume enforcement of expired license plates tags on July 6, after the holiday weekend. 

During the pandemic, the state extended the grace period for vehicle registrations and drivers licenses that between March 9, 2020, and April 1, 2021 to July 1.

As of Friday, 220,000 Ohioans have yet to renew their license plates, according to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Around 320,000 Ohioans haven’t renewed their driver’s licenses. 

It costs $27.25 to renew your driver’s license. New licenses will be backdated to the date the previous license or ID expired.
