COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is “strongly encouraging” visitors to wear masks indoors regardless of their vaccination status.

The zoo’s announcement comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention‘s recent changes to its masking guidelines in which the CDC once again recommended that fully vaccinated Americans wear masks indoors in some cases, citing the highly contagious delta variant.

The guidance calls on those who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 who are in areas that have substantial or high levels of COVID-19 spread to resume wearing masks in indoor settings. The CDC’s guidance recommending masking for those unvaccinated remains unchanged.

Many businesses, health organizations and schools are now mandating or encouraging mask-wearing to slow the spread of the disease.

Zoo officials said masks will be required for some designated tours regardless of an individual’s vaccination status for the “health and safety of the animals.”
