BREWSTER, Oho — “The first time that I noticed something was a little off was the sounds, the noises,” said Lisa Luckring, the manager of The Station Restaurant inside the historic Wandle House in Brewster.

What You Need To Know

  • Workers at the Wandle House in Stark County say they’ve had interactions that they describe as spine-tingling
  • Tri-C Ghost Hunters say the property is haunted and the paranormal activity has coincided with more human activity in the building
  • The Wandle House was built in 1916 and used to house railroad workers; it’s located at 45 South Wabash Ave in Brewster

About a year ago, Luckring was mopping the kitchen floor when she saw something unforgettable.

“That’s when I seen the partial apparition of a woman with short dark hair,” said Luckring.

Luckring says she was more curious than scared.

She talked to her father in-law who runs the Brewster-Sugarcreek Township Historical Society and identified the ghostly figure as the woman in a picture, Theresa, a restaurant worker from the 1950s. Since then, the paranormal activity has continued, not only in the kitchen, but other areas of the compound as well.

“Some of the other employees have seen a white swoosh or a blur, but we’ve heard noises, things have been missing—small things—and then they’ll reappear,” says Luckring.

Councilman Andrew Hess is Lisa’s nephew. He gives tours of the Wandle House and has encountered quite a bit of paranormal activity himself, especially near the building’s basement bowling alley.

“Knocking sounds upstairs and down here, full apparitions, shadow figures,” said Hess.

So how can this paranormal activity be explained? Is it hallucinations, spirits or energy trapped in our dimension? Bring in the ghost hunters, really.

The Tri-C Ghost Hunters have been investigating the activity around the Wandle House for the past year. Their Ohio branch was founded in 2013, and their mission is to make sense and provide insight to clients who are experiencing paranormal activities.

And the Wandle House is no exception.

“I just felt like somebody was staring at me, kind of where you are like behind you. And my teammate at the time, he was outside, so I hollered for him to come in here to see if could get anything on his camera. And I stepped out, and as he swept the room with his camera, we caught an apparition or something standing right there,” said Naomi Jacobson.

Armed with the latest video equipment and audio capturing devices, Naomi and her partner Scott investigated the Wandle House’s second floor and kitchen areas.

Throughout the search, the ghost hunters with decades of experience asked several questions:

“Is there anyone here who would like to communicate with us?” said Scott Gigliotti.

On this day, there wasn’t much activity–until an hour and a half into the search. As we stood outside the kitchen in the dining area with this device searching for any electromagnetic wavelengths or energy.

“I will tell you right now, this never does it. OK, tell me what’s going on? Evidently there is something that is touching this antenna right now, and it’s right next to me,” said Gigliotti.

Gigliotti suggests it could be a spirit making its presence known with a jolt of energy. And although we didn’t see anything, in his experience, he says there are two types of apparitions or what he calls shadow people.

“It acts like it doesn’t see me, and it just goes on with its daily business. But there are other times where I have seen an apparition and they look at me like I’m the intruder, I’m the spirit coming over,” said Gigliotti.

Whatever it is, if it’s anything, Lisa Luckring and the other workers at the Wandle House say it’s something they’ve come to terms with.

“We just basically try and take it in stride. And just figure as long as it’s not anything that’s mean or nasty or that type of thing, we just deal with it,” says Luckring.
