SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — A couple brought together through TikTok but separated by COVID-19 are finally getting a chance to be together in person.

But the threat of the delta variant could change that again.

What You Need To Know

  • Jenni Middleton and Jada Hamilton met through a TikTok video
  • Jenni, from Ohio, and Jada, from Canada, were kept apart because of COVID travel restrictions
  • After more than a year, the couple got to meet in person but are worried about the threat of the delta variant

When Jenni Middleton walked away from a bad relationship, she took to social media.

She went on TikTok and made a video that got a comment that would change her life.

“She put one word. She put “yes” and that’s how it started,” said Middleton.

She said that one word led to jokes, conversations over FaceTime from her house in Springfield, Ohio to someone in Canada. That someone is Jada Hamilton, a new mom, who saw the video and said she just knew.

“We clicked right away,” said Hamilton. “She just like gave me butterflies the whole time,” she said.

FaceTime calls would soon be what kept them together and kept challenging them.

“The distance just makes it a little harder,” said Hamilton.

“So a disagreement that would normally last like 10 minutes would last like three hours,” said Middleton.

COVID-19 and travel restrictions stopped them from seeing each other in person for more than a year; until it didn’t.

They got to see each other in person for the first time in Ohio over the summer and their love story got national attention.

They soon made plans to get married and see each other again in Canada this time.

But the threat of the delta variant could put everything on pause again.

“It’s still stressful. You still have to have COVID tests and even though we’re both fully vaccinated, you still have to have pre-COVID tests and prove everything and have receipts just to get in,” said Middleton.

But the couple that met through a TikTok video said if they have to it will be worth the wait.

“It’s hard, but I love you,” said Middleton.

“I love you, too,” said Hamilton.
