COLUMBUS, Ohio — COVID-19 vaccines will be available for baseball fans at Huntington Park for the Columbus Clippers’ first six home games of the 2021 season.

What You Need To Know

  • The Columbus Clippers’ first homestand of 2021 is May 11-16
  • Mount Carmel will offer free COVID-19 vaccines to fans age 18 and up through the end of the third inning during the opening homestand
  • Teams throughout sports have been promoting COVID-19 vaccines in hopes of returning stadiums to full capacity this year

The Clippers return to the ballpark Tuesday for the first time in 20 months after the COVID-19 pandemic cost all of minor league baseball the 2020 season. Huntington Park will start the 2021 season at a reduced capacity due to the pandemic and social distancing guidelines.

From May 11-16, fans can get a Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine administered by Mount Carmel Hospital. The Johnson & Johnson shot only requires one dose, which means fans won’t need to return for a second dose. The shots will be available at the first-aid center behind home plate through the end of the third inning.

“We believe that we are one of the first professional sports teams in the country to offer their fans a ‘shot and a beer’ while enjoying a ballgame,” Clippers GM Ken Schnacke said in a statement. “This unique opportunity to get your J&J Vaccine while actually enjoying a Clippers game is the ultimate in multi-tasking! So come out to Huntington Park, see the Clippers play and get your vaccine shot to help central Ohio become safer for all of our citizens.”

On Wednesday, the Yankees and Mets announced plans to make vaccines available for fans. Those who get vaccinated at the stadium are given a free ticket to a game.

Other teams, such as the Reds, Indians and Cavs, have announced ticket discounts for fans who show proof of a COVID-19 vaccine.
