It’s not often the president of a company writes handwritten thank you notes.

“It’s a personal touch, right?” Roger Howell, the president of City Gospel Mission, said. “They’re doing something special for us, so we should do something special for them back.”

But for Howell it just makes sense.

“It’s the least I could do to write a little note and say I really appreciate it,” he said.

But Howell has to do a lot more than write a thank you note to show his appreciation to their latest donor, which is why he upgraded to showing his appreciation via video.

Crossroads Church donated $100,000 to City Gospel Mission. Howell said he was shocked when he heard.

The church is donating $2.5 million to nonprofits as a part of their 25th anniversary. For City Gospel Mission, this means they can now start a new program

“Having an unrestricted gift that Crossroads Church said use it however you want was such a blessing to us,” Howell said. “And we had been in the process of working on this new ministry for the homeless that have mental illness. It was just a perfect match and perfect timing.”

In its early stages, Care Farming will be a way for volunteers to help those dealing with mental illness to find healing in nature.

“The fact that people dig in the ground, literally dig, plant things, watch things grow, having results from their hands, really does impact them,” Howell said.

Howell said thanks to Crossroads Church, the community will be forever impacted, and he couldn’t be more thankful.

“You know, just can’t say thank you enough for partnering with us, thank you enough for this large gift,” he said. “But just being a valued partner that they see us doing impact in the community. It just means so much.”
