COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gov. Mike DeWine has declared Sunday, Oct. 4 as a Day of Prayer for President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump as they battle COVID-19.

DeWine is reportedly the first governor to declare such a day in honor of the Trump family and others who are infected with COVID-19. The annoucement comes just a few hours after doctors updated the nation on Trump’s health in front of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he is being treated.

Trump’s Physician, Dr. Sean Conley, said Trump is “doing very well” and has been fever free for 24 hours.

“At this time the team and I are extremely happy with the progress the president has made,” Conley said. “Thursday he had a mild cough and some nasal congestion and fatigue, all of which are now resolving and improving.”

However, soon after the briefing, new details surfaced.

A source familiar with the president’s health told a reporter covering the president that “the president’s vitals over the last 24 hours were very concerning and the next 48 hours will be critical in terms of his care. We’re still not on a clear path to a full recovery.”

Conley also said that Trump wasn’t put on oxygen, but the Associated Press reported Trump was on supplemental oxygen Friday before going to Walter Reed.

Trump has since taken to Twitter, thanking the staff at Walter Reed.

At a briefing Friday, DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted stressed the urgency in taking the proper precautions to help combat the virus.

“I think what this reminds us is anybody you come in contact with may have the COVID. Nobody is immune to it. If the president of the U.S. has it, anyone can have it.” He added, “This is a powerful reminder to us that we have to do the basic things. We have to wear masks. We have to social distance. We have to be careful. We have to avoid big crowds.”

Since Trump’s diagnosis, many Ohio lawmakers who have been around Trump or attended Tuesday’s debate have opted to get tested for the virus. All have come back negative so far, including for DeWine, Husted, Sen. Rob Portman, Rep. Jim Jordan, Rep. Tim Ryan and Rep. Mike Turner.

The Cleveland Clinic also confirmed that everyone at the debate, including Trump, was tested for COVID-19 and all tests came back negative.
