EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — Police in East Cleveland have issued an AMBER Alert after a 2-year-old child was believed to have been abducted by a 40-year-old suspect.

Police said Major Johnson, 2, was last seen in the Elderwood Ave. area wearing a white and gray shirt.

The East Cleveland Police Department said it’s looking for Gerald Toney. Police said Toney is driving a 2010 Ford Fusion with front-end damage and a trash bag over the sun roof (pictured above). The car has a license plate L399591. Toney is 5-feet-7 and weighs 209 pounds, East Cleveland Police said. He has brown eyes and brown hair.

Police said that Toney is the ex-boyfriend of the child’s mother.

An AMBER Alert is issued due to the following:

  • Law enforcement confirms the child is under 18 years of age.
  • Law enforcement believes the abduction poses a credible threat of immediate danger or serious bodily harm or death to the child.
  • There is sufficient descriptive information about the child, the suspect, and/or the circumstances surrounding the abduction to believe that activation of the alert will help locate the child.
  • A law enforcement agency determines the child is not a runaway and has not been abducted as a result of a family abduction, unless the investigation determines the child is in immediate danger of serious bodily harm or death.
