LOS ANGELES (CNS) — “F9” claimed the biggest opening weekend for any movie since the start of the coronavirus pandemic by grossing $70 million this weekend, according to industry estimates released Sunday.
The latest entry in the long-running and hugely profitable “Fast & Furious” franchise far outpaced the $48.3 million opening of “A Quiet Place Part II” during the three-day Memorial Day weekend, Comscore reported.
“A Quiet Place Part II” was in second place with $6.2 million Friday through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada.
“The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” was third with $4.875 million, followed by “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway” with $4.85 million and “Cruella” with $3.725 million.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It” ($2.92 million), “In the Heights” ($2.23 million), “Spirit Untamed” ($1.03 million), “12 Mighty Orphans” ($591,917) and “Nobody” ($560,000).
