AKRON, Ohio — It’s no question that starting and running your own business is tough, but one family is enjoying the ride. They enjoy working together and figuring out innovative ways to help their community along the way.
Without a storefront, you can find 4 Bros and a Sis Lemonade Stand in their front yard or at various events around the city. It’s a good thing customers can drive up for service, because none of the owners are old enough to drive yet.
Ranging in ages from 7 to 14, Chase Swain, Jordan Robinson, Brandon Knowles, and Troy Knowles love being able to work — and work for themselves.
“We always wanted to work,” said the oldest brother, Troy Knowles. “But, since we were so young we couldn’t really get a job.”
That’s how the idea of starting their own business came about. For a couple years now the family has sold lemonade. Even though they are young they’ve figured out the foundation for a successful business.
“Make the customers happy,” said 7-year-old Chase Swain.
The customers are loving the variety of lemonade so much that they seek them out whether it’s in their front yard or at a farmers market.
“Some people pull up and say ‘oh I’ve seen you on Facebook and I wanted to come check you out,” said 12-year-old Brandon Knowles.
They realized from the start that they could turn a profit, but wanted to do more than just make money. They started seeing different needs in the community and have been able to find a way to give back — whether it’s sponsoring event or donating profits.
“Some people need it and we’re just trying to give back to the community,” said 10-year-old Jordan Robinson.
