CINCINNATI — Being a parent can be difficult, which is why one Ohio mom wanted to create a community to make it just a little bit easier.

What You Need To Know

  • Jessica Isaacs started Pause three years ago after realizing she and other moms were struggling to meet new friends
  • After her first event, Isaacs decided to organize monthly events, ranging from weekends away to dinners out to a week-long vacation to Puerto Rico
  • Isaacs hopes the group is a safe space for moms to get some me-time in and recharge
  • Other moms said they always leave the events feeling recharged and ready to tackle motherhood once again

For Jessica Isaacs, sometimes a relaxing day starts with a drink.

“My favorite is pineapple and Malibu rum. It makes me feel like I’m on a beach,” Isaacs said.

And that’s the hope for this trip for local moms coming together, kids-free.

“It’s so relaxing to just kick back, you know?” Isaacs said.

Isaacs started Pause, a group for moms, when she realized she and other moms were struggling to make connections.

“If this is going to happen for me, I need to make it happen myself,” she said. “So I put it out there, here’s where I’m going on this day at this time, anyone is welcome to join. Luckily people showed up and that’s just how it started.”

Now, three years later, Isaacs organizes monthly events, whether it’s a long weekend away, a dinner out or a week-long vacation to Puerto Rico.

“Do I really want to organize and coordinate a trip with a bunch of women that I’ve never met?” Isaacs said. “So, I decided to do it.”

For other moms, whether they’re seasoned veterans at Pause events or first-timers, they all agree, some time away from home is essential.

“Every time that I finish one of these trips and no matter how long it is, if it’s just a one-night dinner or if it’s an overnight or if it’s Puerto Rico, I come back rejuvenated.” Melanie Ficke, a mom of two said.

“I was a little nervous but Mama needs some time off,” Katie Ress, a mom of three and first-time attendee said. “So I just went into this with the intention of if I don’t get along with anybody, I’m just going to sleep.”

Isaacs admits she’s just a mom trying to bring others together.

“I’m not a professional at this, I’m just a mom looking for some time off!” she said.

And hopes she’s created a space to make moms feel more comfortable.

“You’re not the first person to feel like you’re not in a group or you don’t have very many friends,” Isaacs said. “That’s the basis of the whole thing is to allow you a place to go find new people.”
