High School Blitz: Highlights, analysis from regional semifinals of OHSAA playoffs

OHIO — The Ohio High School Athletic Association football tournament continued Friday night across the state. The playoffs will culminate with the state finals on Dec. 1-3 in Canton, Ohio.

In Friday’s OHSAA Game of the Week for central Ohio viewers, third-seeded New Albany advanced with a 20-7 victory over second-seeded Upper Arlington in Region 3 in Division I. 

It doesn’t get any easier for New Albany (10-3), which faces top seed Gahanna Lincoln (12-1) in the regional final next week. Gahanna Lincoln beat Pickerington Central 38-14 to advance. 

In the southwest Ohio Game of the Week, third-seeded Lakota West stayed undefeated by knocking off second-seeded Elder 30-10. 

Lakota West will take a 13-0 record into next week’s reginal final against top-seeded Archbishop Moeller (12-1), who beat Mason 24-16 to advance.

In the northeast Ohio Game of the Week, top-seeded St. Edward cruised past fifth-seeded St. Ignatius 28-7. It was the final game for St. Ignatius coach Chuck Kyle, who retires with a 377-108-1 career record. 

St. Edward (12-1) faces third-seeded Mentor (8-3) in the regional final. Mentor advanced with a 42-21 win over Medina.
