CINCINNATI — Renovating a home just how you like it takes a lot of time and patience. For one Cincinnati woman, it also took her down memory lane.

  • She decided to share her home renovation progress on TikTok, gathering over a million views on some of her videos
  • Gruenwald hopes to keep the third-generation home in the family for the long haul

For Taylor Gruenwald, walking into her newly renovated home brings back a lot of memories.

“This is currently my living room,” Gruenwald said. “It’s been used as a lot of different things throughout my lifetime.”

Gruenwald actually spent her first 11 years in the duplex. She said being back in the home has reminded her of its history.

“That’s my grandfather,” she said. “So he was the one that actually owned the house before my parents.”

But the house definitely needed some upgrades.

“This was a huge transformation,” Gruenwald said of the kitchen. “This room was just hideous before.”

Which was why Gruenwald decided to buy the house from her parents last summer and renovate the space how she always envisioned it.

“My crib used to be right over in this corner here,” she said. “My parents lived in here so it’s pretty weird to be back but it’s awesome at the same time, and I’m super happy to give new life to the space.”

Gruenwald was fairly new to the home reno scene, learning a lot of skills online.

“I watched a lot of YouTube, a lot of TikTok,” Gruenwald said. “There’s some really awesome creators on there that I was seeing do renovations and honestly that’s what gave me the idea to start posting my videos.”

Gruenwald soon garnered over a million views on her project videos on TikTok.

Gruenwald said it was gratifying to give new life to the space. But she’s not done yet. Gruenwald is still renovating the upstairs unit.

And now in the final stages of the project, she said she hopes this home continues to stay in the family.

“Ideally, I will keep it in the family forever if I can,” she said. “I feel like it would be an absolute shame at this point to leave my family.”
