OHIO — On Tuesday, CEOs and clinical leaders of the Ohio’s Children’s Hospitals Association pleaded with Ohioans to get the COVID-19 vaccine and wear masks as hospitals around the state see a spike in coronavirus cases amongst kids.

Officials in the state’s six biggest cities warned the public their hospital beds are quickly filling up for children admitted due to COVID-19 and their staffs are being heavily strained.

OCHA said it is important for everyone in schools to wear masks and for those eligible to get the vaccine. However, the organization would not say if it is calling on Gov. Mike DeWine. R-Ohio, or the state legislature to mandate either. OCHA said they continue to update both DeWine and the General Assembly on their issues.

Hospital leaders in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Akron, Dayton, and Toledo said they either require their employees to be vaccinate or “Strongly encourage” them to get the shots.
