COLUMBUS — It’s been an active week of protests in Columbus with a third protest happening Saturday outside of the Statehouse.
Liann is a Columbus resident who said she heard about the “Black Lives Still Matter” protest on social media.
“We need everyone to keep showing up and doing what we need to do to make sure the black community is supported,” Liann said.
Holding a “No Justice, No Peace” sign, Liann said she has felt the weight of discrimination this year.
“I was actually adopted so my whole family is white and a lot of my friends are white so I think it’s really important to be here. I feel like it’s really important to show that I am here caring.”
Five Columbus-area organizations organized the protest, including the Black Liberation Movement, Columbus Socialist Alternative, People’s Justice Project, Columbus DSA and Showing up for Racial Justice.

“The only thing that is supreme in this situation is love, which is what we are here for,” Yakita said to the crowd.
The protests this week come after the recent police-involved shootings of Black men.
Hundreds showed up for the protest on Saturday, many holding signs and waving flags.
The group marched through downtown afterward.
