Inmates escape from northeast Ohio correctional facility

LORAIN COUNTY — Two inmates are on the loose after escaping from the Lorain/Medina Community Based Correctional Facility in Elyria last week, according to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office. 

Inmates Kevin McKitrick and Justin Hamilton broke a window and escaped on June 29 around 8:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office said in a press release Thursday evening. Investigators said it’s possible they had help and were picked up. The sheriff’s office they were made aware of the escape the day it happened but didn’t send out the release until Thursday, July 8.

Hamilton is serving time for tampering with evidence and McKitrick for aggravated robbery.

Hamilton is around 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds with black hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with blue pants.

McKitrick is described as 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds with light brown/blond hair and hazel eyes. He was wearing a red T-shirt and blue pants. 

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Lorain County Sheriff’s Detective Bureau. If they are seen, authorities encourage residents to call the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office at 440-244-0373 or 911.
