PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Lake County Metroparks is advising visitors to swim “at your own risk,” as a lifeguard shortage is affecting operations at Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park along Lake Erie.

Metroparks said starting this week, beaches at Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park will be unguarded on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On these days, the county will not be collecting parking fees from visitors. Concessions and rentals will remain open from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily.

Metroparks advises visitors not to swim when lifeguards are not present.

Lifeguards will continue to be present Thursdays-Mondays 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Other local attractions have been affected by the lifeguard shortage.

Last month, the city of Cleveland announced its swimming pools will be forced to operate at reduced hours through Aug. 8. Outdoor pools will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays the rest of the summer regardless of temperature. The pools will be open noon to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.
