Nearly two months have passed since Russia invaded Ukraine. Russian forces have withdrawn from the capital region of Ukraine to refocus on the eastern part of the country, but the images of what was left behind in their wake have sparked global outrage.

The U.N. human rights office says it has documented at least 2,300 civilian deaths in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. According to the U.N., 5 million people have fled Ukraine, the greatest refugee crisis since World War II. Overall death tolls in the conflict are unclear.

After Russian forces withdrew from the capital region of Ukraine, graphic evidence of deliberate civilian killings emerged, leading to growing international condemnation; Russia has denied the accusations and falsely claimed that the images were staged.

As Russia launches a new all-out offensive in the eastern part of Ukraine, President Joe Biden announced $800 million in new military aid to help Ukrainian forces repel the assault.
