MEDINA, Ohio — Matt Amodio has had a front-row seat to Jeopardy’s recent hosting drama, yet through it all, he continues to win.

What You Need To Know

  • Matt Amodio continued his winning streak to 19 games on “Jeopardy!”
  • Amodio’s run is tied for the fourth longest in the show’s history
  • Amodio’s stint has spanned multiple guest hosts
  • Amodio grew up in Medina and now attends Yale University

On Monday, after a month-long break, Amodio won the “Jeopardy!” season opener, marking his 19th consecutive win on the game show. The win places Amodio in a three-way tie for fourth in most consecutive games won on “Jeopardy!” He is one victory away from catching Julia Collins for third on the list, according to the show’s Hall of Fame.

Amodio is already third in winnings in regular season play with over $642,000 in winnings.

He was once again impressive in victory. Amodio had $42,800 in winnings going into Final Jeopardy. He added $25,000 to his total on the final answer to add $67,800 to his winnings.

Monday’s episode was hosted by Mike Richards, who was hired as the show’s permanent replacement to Alex Trebek. Richards was ultimately dismissed by Sony Picture Studios, and eventually replaced as the show’s executive producer.

The episode was taped before Richards was dismissed as host.

During his run, Amodio described himself as a “history nerd.” He is currently a Ph.D. student at Yale University in Connecticut.

Last week, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont talked to Amodio and posted the conversation on Twitter.

“I am a Ph.D. student, I have a very small stipend, I am used to spending money but this whole making money thing is totally foreign to me,” Amodio said.
