If you drive around Toledo and its surrounding communities, you’ll find signs of support for both presidential candidates. And according to those signs, Northwest Ohio certainly has a pro-Trump population.

“I support the president because he’s a president that is pro-life,” said Haley Phillips of Holland.

“I think he’s done an absolutely amazing and incredible job,” said Diana Salsberry of Norwalk.

But not everyone in town wants him to be re-elected.

“I just hope he loses because I’m worried about the next four years if he’s still in power what will happen,” said Michele Wersell of South Toledo.

“I don’t think he’s done a very good job. I mean, I don’t think he did a very good job with the coronavirus,” said John Granger of Maumee.

Current polls indicate it will be a tight race in the Buckeye State. According to FiveThirtyEight, Trump currently holds less than a 2 percent lead over candidate Joe Biden.

Trump is campaigning hard in Ohio leading up to next week’s first presidential debate in Cleveland.

“I think his presence here shows how important the Midwest is to his campaign and getting re-elected,” said Rich Knight of Perrysburg.

Everyone at the rally signed a COVID-19 waiver that absolves the Trump campaign of any liability should someone contract the coronavirus.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine is not enforcing the mask mandate at campaign rallies citing First Amendment protected speech.

However, the governor is encouraging the candidates to stress the importance of wearing a mask and social distancing.
