Cincinnati resident Brian Jones, 57, recently received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. It’s something he’s been wanting to do for a while.

“It was hard to find a location in this area, so it was a good thing that they came to Avondale,” he said.

Not only was location initially an issue for Jones, but he, like many others, was skeptical about getting it.

“At first I was, but most a lot of people got it and I thought it was the best thing to do,” he said.

After getting the vaccine on the relief bus, Jones stopped by the United Way station to pick up a care package. He said he’s grateful to have received the J&J shot because it’s one and done.

“I just thought one shot was easier and better than trying to take two because with taking two shots you probably wouldn’t come back,” he said.

The concept of the relief bus was introduced by Hamilton County Commissioner Alicia Reece. It’s an idea she got from Hampton University’s Mobile Vaccination Clinic. With the help of other nonprofit organizations, they hope to provide the community with a one-stop shop for all their needs.

“We’re here now with real community partnership and we’re bringing resources that will help you, and I think that’s one of the things that makes us unique is making people feel more comfortable that we’re coming to you to help you,” said Reece.

For the rest of the year, the bus will travel to various locations across Cincinnati to help with all the essentials. It’s something Jones said he’s happy to see.

“Well today was a very nice day because they got a lot of free things to help people in the community,” he said.
