SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — No one is ever too young to make a difference — that’s the lesson one northeast Ohio mother is teaching her children.

What You Need To Know

  • A northeast Ohio family hosted a community litter clean up
  • The family was able to pick up hundreds of bags of trash
  • They plan to host more community cleanups in the future

Kayla Custer has three boys. They all live in South Euclid but drive down Belvoir Boulevard in East Cleveland almost daily.

“When we drive through here, they are always saying ‘it’s so gross,’” Custer said.  “So we told them if you want to fix it, then you have to do something about it.”

So Liam Branham, 8, the middle child, and his two brothers decided to host an event to pick up the trash along the road.

Members of the community showed up to help the family clean up garbage.

“I don’t want our world to be covered in trash,” Branham said. “We’ve done lots of bags; I haven’t counted so I would think at least a thousand.”

Branham hopes his small efforts will make a big difference and he wants inspire others to stop littering.

“You should not do this, it’s not good,” Branham said of the litter.

The family plans to do more community cleanups in the future.

“I mean, it has just been awesome,” said Custer. “They want to keep doing this and they hope that they can get more kids to come from their school.”
