COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health is issuing a simplified health order that streamlines previous orders into a single order. Gov. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, said the goal is to underscore the most important things to be done in preventing further spread of COVID-19.

What You Need To Know

  • Gov. Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department Health announced a new health order
  • The order consolidates older health orders
  • The order allows no capacity limits to outdoor events

DeWine said the new health orders being released Monday and Tuesday consolidate a number of orders that were previously implemented during the pandemic as far as wearing masks, social distancing, washing hands, and limiting large gatherings.

“Spring and summer’s going to look a whole lot better this year for Ohioans,” DeWine said

The new health orders allow for large-scale events to take place as long as groups are limited to 10 people who keep six feet of distance from other groups and wear masks.

“We’re making it clear in this order that proms can occur,” DeWine said. “We’re making it clear in this order that festivals can occur. We’re making it clear in this order that graduations can occur.”

The new orders will remove any capacity limit for outdoor events while indoor events will stay at 25%.

“That might be the difference between a couple, one or two cases, of spread which we hope doesn’t happen, but if it does that’s the worst and that these events aren’t super-spreader events,” said Ohio Department of Health Director Stephanie McCloud.

The governor was also asked if walk-in appointments for people who want the vaccine would be available soon. He said any local health department that wants to do it can do it, and he expects to see a lot more of that throughout the state.
