COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost plans to run for re-election in 2022 and says he won’t seek the U.S. Senate seat that fellow Republican Rob Portman is leaving.
Yost announced his decision Monday, tweeting that he loves his work as Ohio’s top prosecutor.
He’s halfway through a four-year term. Portman said last week that he won’t seek reelection to the Senate in 2022, citing frustrations with “partisan gridlock.”
Potential candidates include Rep. Bill Johnson, former Rep. Jim Renacci, former state Treasurer Josh Mandel and Secretary of State Frank LaRose among Republicans.
Democrats include U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan and Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley.
