Parrish originally went to school for cosmetology, but after two years, she wanted to make a change.

“I decided that it wasn’t for me. I wanted to pursue something different, and then I realized that fashion was more of my passion,” said Parrish.

Parrish is currently enrolled in the Fashion Design and Retail Merchandising program at Hocking College.

This semester she’s learning about entrepreneurship, customer service skills and branding with 13 other students, including classmate Jazmin Cruz.

Cruz is one of the students involved in HC Alterations, which offers alterations to students free of charge, with outreach to the local community as well.

“That gives students the hands-on learning opportunity of how to run a business, how to work with customers, how to develop their entrepreneurial logic. Within our program, we’ve partnered with the Career Closet which is part of Hocking College. And they offer career-oriented clothing to our students free of charge,” said Program Manager Carol Wedel.

“Seeing the smile on their face, I think that makes me feel like I did something right. I feel accomplished,” said Cruz.

For Parrish, a Cleveland native, well she has lofty goals after her two year program comes to a close next year.

“My goal is to either open my own boutique or be a buyer or seller for a corporate company,” said Parrish.
