CINCINNATI, Ohio — For the past six years, Middletown-native and former high school basketball player Rodney Hunter has devoted his career training school-age basketball athletes.

What You Need To Know

  • On August 1, Middletown-native Rodney Hunter opened B2E Sports gym
  • Unlike other basketball training facilities, this gym doesn’t have any basketball hoops
  •  Instead of basketball hoops, Hunter uses other training equipment to help develop young athletes

“I work with young ballers to give them the tools to not only be elite athletes, but elite people,” said Hunter.

It’s his passion for basketball and his drive to help others that inspired him to become a trainer.

“I had a lot of things that happened in my life and surroundings that we’re going on that could have took me down the wrong path,” said Hunter. “However, when anything negative would happen, I always had basketball. It saved my life legit multiple times if you ask me.”

He has trained all over the country and now has two gyms, one of which just opened August 1. But his newest facility B2E Sports in Middletown isn’t like other training facilities.

“When you think of basketball facilities you instantly think about basketball hoops so I wanted to be something completely different in this facility,” said Hunter.

Instead of basketball hoops, Hunter has other training equipment that helps athletes focus on the fundamentals of basketball.

“I wanted to create this facility here that didn’t have a basketball hoop so we can focus in one every single area that is needed in order to be successful in the game of basketball,” he said.

And as his journey begins with this new business, Hunter said he understands the impact the pandemic could potentially have on his business, but he’s up to the challenge.

“I don’t disregard COVID-19 by any means,” said Hunter. “In fact, I take extra precautions just like everyone else should. But I don’t allow that to stop me. I have a thing that I say:  ‘Focus on where you’re going to and not what you’re going through.’”

You can now register for training at his website. Classes will officially begin on Sept. 2.
