Ohio State announced it will hold in-person ceremonies for the class of 2021 and the class of 2020.

Alexa Ferko is a spring 2020 grad. She said she remembers the feelings of watching her commencement ceremony virtually last May.

“It was honestly sad just sitting on the couch watching it and then it’s like turn off the TV it’s done,” Ferko said.

She said hearing the announcement from OSU President Kristin M. Johnson this week was exciting.

“I think that it’s awesome that they’re inviting past classes that had to graduate virtually back to the Shoe. I know for me I know it was something I looked forward to my whole life,” she said.

Commencement for the class of 2020 will be on May 9, the class of 2021 will celebrate on Aug. 8.

Ohio State will hold two commencement ceremonies on each of the days, limiting capacity in Ohio Stadium to 13,500 people.

Grads can bring two guests.

While Ferko said not every former Buckeye plans to return, she’s excited for the big day.

“Some are like I’m over it. It’s done. I kind of feel the same way, but, again, this was a really big moment for me, so if I have the opportunity to go back and go in the Shoe and graduate again, I’ll do it,” Ferko said.
