Police investigate bomb threat at Westerville Central, Alcott Elementary on lockdown

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Students and staff at Westerville Central High School evacuated the building Wednesday after the school received a bomb threat, according to its website.

“We will let our families know when students have returned to the building to resume their day,” the school wrote. 

Genoa Township Police Department wrote on its Facebook page that it’s currently investigating the threat. Chief Steve Gammill wrote Alcott Elementary School has also been placed on lockdown as a precaution.

“All students and staff have been evacuated while we conduct a search. Alcott has been placed on lockdown. Parents are asked not to respond to either school while we work the situation. We will update when we know more,” the Facebook post reads.

There are no other details at this time. 

This is one of a handful of bomb threats made toward Columbus-area schools in the past few days. 

On Monday, Canal Winchester High School and Middle School had to evacuate and students were sent home after receiving a threat. According to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, the threat was deemed “noncredible” after an investigation with the Federal Joint Terrorism Task Force. 

Another threat was made toward Pickerington North High School also on Monday, but was deemed false by authorities. Officials said they believed the two were connected, made me a man located several states away toward the west coast.
